Disclaimer: FAR disagrees with parts of the Prometheus film; for example, the sacrilegious Christian symbolism and aliens portrayed as humanity's creators, benefactors and saviors. FAR also disagrees with the critics themselves, who promote the same New Age ideas they're critiquing, e.g., apotheosis—men becoming gods—and panspermia, the view that life originated in outer space and was transported to earth to begin life.
The Bible, in contrast, portrays mankind, not as potential deities, but fallen mortals, fallen from their original high state and living in a sinful, degenerate world (Gen. 3) without hope (Eph. 2: 12;I Thes. 4:13). Though mankind does possesses many wondrous and incredible abilities, as depicted in the film, it is only because man bears the Image of God, not because he is evolving.
Despite our differences with the critiques, they're still interesting and quite informative, so we've included them with our critique.
Our salvation will never be attained by evolution or evolutionary convictions, e.g., self-esteem, self-empowerment or self-enlightenment (according to one critic), but redemption from sin through our Lord Jesus Christ. Only by confessing Christ, repenting of our sins and being baptized for the remission of sins (Acts 2:38), can we attain Salvation.
